Netflix, Prime Video, HBO... Which platform is best for watching films and series in 2026?

Streaming platforms have completely changed the way we watch series and films at home. Increasingly fierce competition between these services has led to an endless supply of content, and choosing the best streaming platform is not always an easy task.

Which streaming platform should you choose based on your preferences?

Although there is a lot of competition between streaming platforms, not all services are aimed at the same consumer profile. Deciding which platform is best for watching films and series at home has a lot to do with personal taste. That is why, to a greater or lesser extent, each of these platforms offers something unique to attract a loyal audience to its content.

  • Netflix: This is the platform with the longest track record in the sector and, if only because of its longevity, the one that offers the most extensive catalogue of commercial titles. Some films are now released directly on the platform instead of going to the cinema, making it a good option if you want to keep up with the latest film releases
  • HBO: HBO rose to global fame with the series Game of Thrones and, since then, has capitalized on its popularity with other offerings that, while still somewhat commercial, prioritize quality. It is best known for its series, which include iconic titles such as Six Feet Under, The Sopranos and The Wire.
  • Amazon Prime Video: This is quite similar to Netflix, but with a more limited catalogue. However, it includes the option to purchase or rent titles, as this platform actually works as a benefit for Amazon Prime subscribers, the online shopping programme. It is great for households with several members, allowing the creation of up to six user profiles.
  • Apple TV: as with the brand's other services, Apple's highlight is its exclusivity. The platform prides itself on bringing its customers only high-budget content. It is a good option for users who are already part of the Apple ecosystem and for international sports fans.
  • Movistar+: unlike a few years ago, users can now access Movistar+ without signing up for additional mobile or fibre services. This streaming platform stands out above all for the quality of its range of nationally produced films and series.
  • Disney+: despite what it may seem, this streaming platform is not reserved solely for the youngest members of the household. Its collection includes titles from all its franchises (Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, etc.) with content aimed at different age groups. In addition, following the merger with Star+, the platform expanded its catalogue for a more adult audience.
  • Filmin: this is a recommended option for lovers of European cinema. Its catalogue is not the most extensive on this list, but it is one of the most specialised for those looking for arthouse films and works that are regularly featured at film festivals.
