In the middle of August, at the height of summer, the city of Malaga dresses up to celebrate its big summer festival. The Malaga Fair returns to the streets of the capital between 16 and 23 August, filling the city center with marquees, attractions, music and lights.

The story of a summer classic

The Malaga Fair is a commemorative festival that dates back to the time of the Catholic Monarchs. It has been celebrated since 1491 to commemorate a historic moment of great importance: the reconquest of the city by the Catholic Monarchs in 1487.

Initially, the celebration was set for 15 August, coinciding with the Feast of the Assumption. It was later moved to 19 August, the feast day of Saint Louis. Today, the celebrations last eight days around the original dates. In 2025, the Malaga Fair will be held from 16 to 23 August.

Highlights of the 2025 Malaga Fair

The Malaga City Council has not yet revealed who will be the announcer of the Fair in 2025, taking over from Kanka, who inaugurated the 2024 festivities. However, it is expected that the announcement will be made, as has been customary since 2022, on the first Saturday of the fair at the entrance to Recinto Ferial Cortijo de Torres. The announcement of the festivities will be followed by the traditional lighting of the fairgrounds (around 10 p.m.), marking the start of an intense week of celebrations.

During the day, the atmosphere of the fair will be particularly noticeable in the streets of the city centre. Although the performances have not yet been confirmed, as in previous years there will be live music every day from 12 noon until the afternoon in the squares of San Pedro de Alcántara, Las Flores and La Constitución. If the 2024 programme remains unchanged, Plaza de la Merced will be a space specially reserved for activities with children, while Calle Larios will continue to be one of the most popular parts of the fair, with streets decorated with lanterns and passers-by dressed in flamenco costumes.

In the evening, the activity of the Malaga Fair will move to the area around the Recinto Ferial Cortijo de Torres. There, the tents and attractions will be set up, and the most notable activities and concerts of the fair will take place.
