Nature, time, and balance: pillars of slow living

Night view of Real de La Quinta

High levels of stress eventually take their toll. Living at a fast pace causes us to lose focus on the moment and limits our ability to fully enjoy each moment. Slowing down, connecting with nature, and finding balance with our surroundings are the fundamental pillars of a healthier philosophy of life: slow living.

What is slow living?

In a world where urgency is often confused with importance, it is becoming increasingly difficult to devote the time that each task and each person truly deserves. Although this change of pace in daily routines has accelerated over the last two decades, efforts to break this dynamic are not new.

The slow-living philosophy originated in the 1980s and has many points in common with what we now know as mindfulness, i.e., being fully aware of the present moment. It therefore consists of eliminating the sense of urgency imposed by the times we live in, listening to the needs of the body and mind, and calmly enjoying the tasks that come our way throughout the day.

Slow living: fewer things, but done well

Overwork, pressure from unfinished projects, or family responsibilities can be overwhelming. When stress and anxiety rise to uncontrollable levels, these situations lead to physical and emotional blockages that negatively impact personal and professional relationships.

Slow living proposes prioritizing and balancing one's own needs over those imposed from outside, focusing in a healthy way on the different facets of life (sports, hobbies, motherhood, work, etc.) and setting aside the necessary time to enjoy them, without stress or impositions.

The environment also plays an important role in these slow living strategies. Disconnecting from noise and rush in a cozy space, preferably surrounded by nature, also helps to slow down the pace. Quiet environments provide clarity when it comes to setting priorities and approaching them from a slow living perspective. Other effective techniques include:

  • Limit the use of technology and social media to when it is really necessary.
  • Take trips to nature, disconnecting from your cell phone and focusing on the experience.
  • Practice slow food, which consists of eating calmly and without distractions, focusing on the flavors and textures of food.
  • Dedicate quality time to our loved ones, reserving the space they deserve.

Real de La Quinta: Nature and well-being

Living in the right environment makes it easier to adopt habits that are more in line with the slow living philosophy. Choosing homes nestled in nature and away from noise allows you to naturally incorporate calm, relaxation, and quality of life into your daily routine.

At Real de La Quinta, our homes are situated in natural setting that fosters this lifestyle, where contact with nature and tranquility are part of everyday life. Location thus becomes a key factor, as it allows for the creation of an environment designed to slow down the pace, prioritize well-being, and enjoy a more balanced and mindful way of life.
